Testimonials & Reviews for AppliedOrtho Physical Therapy in Germantown, MD:
For almost two years I suffered with low back pain caused by hobbling on crutches for 6 weeks after foot surgery. I was sent for x-rays and finally an MRI evidencing an inflammation issue in the lumbar sacral joint. Allergic to anti-inflammatory drugs, I tried herbal anti-inflammatory supplements unsuccessfully. I was in physical therapy twice for three months at a time with a chiropractor, receiving adjustments, tens and ultrasound in addition to back exercises, all to no avail. I saw an orthopedist who injected cortisone, which only worsened the condition. I underwent acupuncture treatments, which improved the situation considerably until I got bronchitis and coughed for weeks at a time. The cough worsened the back situation to the point that the acupuncture no longer helped. I was constantly in extreme pain and depressed that there was nothing further I could do. I then saw an episode of Dr. Oz wherein they described the Laser IV and demonstrated on a woman with a neuroma in her foot. They claimed that the Laser IV healed inflammation.
I searched the internet and found the Lite Cure website. Only two physical therapy centers in my area had the Laser IV machine, both of which were in Maryland. I contacted the first center and was not pleased with the reception I received. I then contacted AppliedOrtho and John Kitchen returned my call, explained what he could offer and scheduled me for treatments.
I commend and recommend John Kitchen as a most competent and compassionate physical therapist. With his expertise in locating the “trigger point” muscles in my back and teaching me the proper stretching exercises, in addition to the Laser IV treatments, I am now virtually pain free. Living in Virginia, I was only able to make appointments on Saturdays and thus, it took approximately 10 treatments to achieve the healing and freedom from pain I sought after for so long. I have no doubt if I was able to make appointments several days apart that the result would have been much quicker. Regardless, I am forever indebted to Mr. Kitchen for the treatments, and I would highly recommend him to anyone needing a physical therapist and I would most certainly recommend the Laser IV treatments to anyone with an inflammation problem. Insurance does not yet cover such treatments but I felt the money was well spent.

I enthusiastically endorse Applied
Ortho and John Kitchen. I had severe shoulder pain that was beginning to
disrupt my ability to work. I had been evaluated by both an orthopedist
and a rehab medicine doctor, and even tried expensive anti-inflammatory
medications, but didn't find relief until I began an exercise regimen that
John recommended. My shoulder has been pain-free for a year now, and this
summer I swam without pain for the first time in two or three years.

I am a forty -two year old person that suffered a back injury
in my early twenties. Every year , I used to have very strong flare ups
that would last several weeks. These episodes left me in tremendous pain
and I was not able to walk. About eight years ago, I suffered another
injury and since then, I have not been without pain a single day. I have
had difficulties walking, bending, playing with my children, driving a car
or my motorcycle and general day to day activities. Because of the extreme
pain, I went to different doctors and was only prescribed strong
medications that mostly just made me sleepy without really reducing pain.
After trying acupuncture, chiropractors and other physical therapists, I
always ended up with continuous pain and big medical bills. My last
attempt was surgery but that also did not seem to make a big difference.
After the surgery, the doctor recommended me to John Kitchen. When I first
started therapy with Mr. Kitchen, I was highly medicated, using a cane and
in tremendous pain. After the first hour of his assessment and
manipulation, I could tell that this guy was unusual. It has been just
over a year and he always spends the entire hour using various techniques
that have made a huge difference in my back. I don't need a cane anymore,
my mobility has doubled, the pain has reduced slowly and steadily and I
have decreased the amount of medication. I am extremely grateful that I
found a physical therapist as knowledgeable as he is, but also as
compassionate. I would highly recommend Mr. Kitchen to anyone. I even keep
his cards in my pocket so I can tell other people about how effective he
is. He treats the clients as a person; he spends time with you, talks with
you and asks questions, motivates and encourages you. I have to say he is
one of the best physical therapist I have ever met.

I am a patient of John's because I have suffered with migraines and lower back pain for more than 15 years. I generally have to take medicine or go to bed and have had to go to the Emergency Room for relief in the past.
One evening I was already scheduled for an appointment when a migraine came on. I hadn't been to his office when I actually had a migraine so I wasn't sure what to expect. I felt so bad that I seriously considered cancelling the appointment but decided that the therapies would at least take the edge off then I could go home and crawl in bed.
John uses joint manipulation and manual therapy, and either the 830 Cold Laser or Electric Stimulation therapy depending on the situation and pain reference to relieve my aches and pain and keep them from coming back as often.
On this particular day I had pain in my head, neck and shoulders. John started by manually manipulating and adjusting my neck and spine to relieve pressure and inflammation from being incorrectly aligned. Then he started myofascial trigger point therapy to get more of my stress points to release and calm down. I started feeling a little better in his office. He finished the appointment with the Electric Stimulation therapy that seems to remove the ache and throbbing from sore muscles! My head and neck that had been on high alert for pain, tension and tightness had started to release and feel better when I left.
I decided that maybe I felt well enough to make ONE return at ONE store before I headed home. Then I was definitely going home to crash. Three hours later when the stores kicked me out because they were closing I realized how much better I felt!! Not even a twinkling of pain in my head or neck! All tension and avches gone. I had forgotten how rotten I had felt earlier! I thought I would have to remember to tell John that my three hour shopping spree was all his fault!

I am grateful to John for his understanding of my concerns (as a first time bone breaker) and his patient explanations which helped allay my fears. His warmth and compassion are evident. I wholeheartedly recommend his services.

All during my pregnancy, I was experiencing back and hip pain. After the baby was born, I was hoping the pain would go away. Unfortunately, the pain remained. I suffered with pain for 5 years. Thanks to John, after just one treatment, I had noticed a 90% improvement and was finally able to sleep through the night.
— AA, Gaithersburg MD
Had previous back surgery, but my recovery was not nearly as fast as what I experienced under Johns care.
— Dan S, Vienna VA
Johns approach to therapy was really focused. John seemed to quickly discover the problem and find a solution. A true professional.
— Anne K, Bethesda MD
Wanted to thank John for saving my
life. John was instrumental in the diagnosis of my lung cancer. John
recognized that my problem wasn't a true shoulder problem and referred me
to the appropriate person.
