Chronic Neck Pain Relief in Maryland, DC & Northern Virginia:

Neck pain is a common reason for visits to a primary care physician's office, chiropractic office and physical therapy center.

Causes of Neck Pain:

  • Trauma to neck, Motor Vehicle Accident
  • Poor posture.  The forward head posture changes both the tissue demands and the biomechanics of the cervical spine. This alters load bearing of the vertebral segments, resulting in an increased load on the supporting structures.

Sources of Chronic Neck Pain:

  • Hypo mobile or hyper mobile vertebral joints of the cervical spine
  • Joint Degeneration.
  • Myofascial Trigger Points in the muscles of the cervical and thoracic regions.
  • Cervical Arterial Dysfunction.
  • TMJ Dysfunction.
  • Metabolic Disorders.

Treatment for Neck Pain:

Osteopathic Manual Therapy for
Neck Pain (Joint Repositioning):

Osteopathic Manual Therapy provides neck pain relief by restoring normal cervical spine and possibly upper thoracic joint function. Restoring normal joint function helps to release contracted muscles (trigger points) adjacent to that spinal segment, releases subclinical nerve entrapments (neuropathy) and restores both normal nerve and muscle function.

Meridian Therapy (ETPS) for Neck Pain:

In its simplest form, ETPS is a non-invasive hybrid modality that involves the application of concentrated low frequency direct current to various points throughout the body that correlate with the individual's painful neck condition. This results in the release of the body's natural pain relievers, called endorphins, to reduce neck pain.

Trigger Point Therapy (Dry Needling) for Neck Pain:

Based on scientific evidence combined with neurophysiological principles, this treatment for neck pain involves the deactivation of relevant muscular trigger points by inserting a thin filament needle into the muscular taut band or by using an 830 Cold Laser.  Inactivation of the taut band restores the contracted band to its original length, which decreases neck pain and improves muscle flexibility, strength and function.

Postural Corrective Exercises for Neck Pain:

Based on clinical findings and Biotonix postural assessments, corrective pain free exercises are provided to address areas of weakness and tightness that may be contributing to postural compensations and continued neck pain.
