John M. Kitchen, PT, MPT, OCS, CMTPT

John Kitchen is the owner and a physical therapist at AppliedOrtho® Physical Therapy and has been practicing orthopedics for over 10 years. John graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BS degree in kinesiology from Old Dominion University in 1996 and received a Master of Physical Therapy degree from Old Dominion University in 1999.

Physical Therapy Specialization:

1.   The use of Intramuscular Manual Therapy and Spinal Manipulative Therapy to treat a variety of neuromuscular, musculoskeletal and myofascial pain conditions, with a special emphasis on pain management.

2.   Developer of the AppliedMethod®. An integrative approach to the physical therapy treatment of myofascial and neuropathic pain conditions.

1.  The American Physical Therapy Association, orthopedic and private practice sections.

2.  American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy.

Physical Therapy Certifications:

1.  Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS). This carries with it the recognition by the American Physical Therapy Association as being an expert in the field of orthopedic physical therapy.

2.   Certified Myofascial Trigger Point Therapist (CMTPT).  Trained in the ability to evaluate and treat individuals suffering from various myofascial pain conditions, specifically with the use of dry needling.

Post Graduate Physical Therapy Training:

1.   Osteopathic Spinal Manipulation.  Extensive training from The Spinal Manipulation Institute in the use of high velocity low amplitude osteopathic thrust techniques to treat a variety of spinal conditions.

2.   Intramuscular Manual Therapy (Dry Needling):  Trained and worked with Dr. Robert Gerwin and Dr. Jan Dommerholt (Myopain Seminars) in evaluation and treatment of myofascial pain conditions.

3.   Biomechanical Evaluation and Treatment of Vertebral and Extremity Dysfunctions.  Received comprehensive training in the evaluation and manual treatment of spinal and extremity conditions from The North American Institute of Orthopedic Manual Therapy..

4.   Maitland Australian Physiotherapy.  A concept of assessment and treatment for spinal and extremity disorders in a safe, efficient and gentle manner in order to alleviate pain and restore function.

5.   ETPS Neuromechanical Therapy.  Developed by Dr. Bruce Hocking specifically for the treatment of pain.  This therapy is based on concepts from osteopathic medicine, modern neurology, micro current stimulation and muscular relaxation techniques.
